PASC AWARDS

Each year the Pennsylvania Association of Senior Centers recognizes individuals or organizations that demonstrated commitment to the senior center movement. The awards were presented at the PASC Conference on October 19th at the Nittany Lion Inn in State College. A monetary award is given to each recipient.

The 2007 Good Neighbor Award (sponsored by Pat Raynor in memory of her husband Ronald) recognizes the Senior Center that has made an innovative or significant contribution to its community. Schuylkill Regional Resource Center received this award for involvement in the community especially with children through mentoring, pen pals, summer lunch program, story time and Hoodie Hoo Day making the Schuylkill Regional Resource Center good neighbors to the residents of Mahanoy City and Schuylkill County.

Make a Difference award (sponsored by AARP) recognizes an individual, business, organization, or legislative advocate who has, through direct involvement, made a positive impact on a Senior Center. This year’s award went to Ernestyne Bush for her leadership as a volunteer since 1992. She was instrumental in funding the installation of new lighting and auto-flush toilets. She makes a difference to everyone who enters the Philadelphia Senior Center by working tirelessly (700+ hours last year, 2000+ since 2003). She donated her award to the Philadelphia Senior Center.

The Service Excellence Award (sponsored by AARP) goes to the Senior Center Professional who has gone above and beyond the call towards preservation and revitalization of a Senior Center. This year’s recipient is Diane Kuppelweiser for her enthusiasm, compassion, and creativity in providing the highest quality of life for the participants at Center in the Woods through evening dance, fitness programs, Senior Games, Tailgate parties and black tie affairs.
