Senior Community Center Media Campaign Thousands of older Pennsylvanians visit Pennsylvania senior centers every day for social, recreational and educational activities. These centers are community treasures - they offer hot meals, a warm smile and friendly conversation to older Pennsylvanians. Many people do not know about the great things senior centers offer and they are missing out on these valuable resources. A new statewide media campaign, scheduled for June 2002, is being aimed at raising public awareness of senior centers and at increasing participation in them. A thirty-second television and radio ad will highlight a number of activities occurring at senior centers and will encourage viewers/listeners to locate their local centers by calling their local Area Agency on Aging; visiting the Pennsylvania Senior Centers website - www.paseniorcenters.org; or calling a toll-free helpline. The campaign is being developed by the Joint Committee on Senior Centers, comprised of members of the Pennsylvania Association of Senior Centers and the Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging (PAAAA), in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the Pennsylvania Council on Aging. The Committee and the Department of Aging recognize the need and value that Pennsylvania's senior community centers bring to older adults. It is anticipated that the campaign will draw new participants to centers and will continue to energize centers to move into the future. Through this campaign people will learn about senior centers, what they have to offer and the important role they play as the entry point for aging services in the state. The following links will provide you with complementary pieces of the campaign. These pieces are informational and are designed to help prepare centers for welcoming new participants.
